Dear Friends of ZuZu, It’s wonderful how the attitudes of the food-loving public have evolved. I’m not so surprised that our regular guests have developed a hyper-awareness about everything they eat and drink -- is it organic? Local? Mass-produced? Bad for the planet? Bad for me? What is really intriguing is the emergence of a new class of connoisseur: kids. The contrast between the amount of interest and information on food now compared to when I was growing up is ridiculous. My daughters have always been passionate about food, but maybe they had a small advantage. My oldest daughter carefully records everything we cook together in her spiral-bound notebook. I love to hear them and their friends talk about food -- what they ate on their travels, their favorite restaurants, and what they thought was absolutely amazing. We live in a fun time and I’m excited to cook for the next generation. Our Chef’s Table this month features one of my favorite adult beverages -- ice cold beer. We are so pleased to have our friends at Four Peaks Brewing Company return to ZuZu on Monday, August 16th for their fourth Chef’s Table. Talk about intriguing...their brews consistently have a beautiful depth of flavor and complexity; the perfect balance of malty, caramel goodness with just the right amount of hoppy sweetness and bitter thrown in. You can taste the love and care they put into all their beers. The brewery on 8th Street in Tempe is a local treasure, one of the little gems that makes me proud to live here in the Valley. You can expect some interesting pairings along with copious pours of their delicious brews. I hope you make cooking at home a family affair. It’s empowering to cook with the seasons, starting with something beautiful and transforming it into a delicious, healthy meal. The recipes I prepare on “Your Life A-Z” are always geared toward the home cook, and take advantage of the best the market has to offer at the time. I hope to see you in ZuZu this summer.
